Soul Food Sundays  /  Prepared for Nikki

Mr. Talkbox
at NMAAM.
Captured right.

A four-time Grammy winner, a concert in the Roots Theater, and an artifact unveiling in the lobby. Every option for filming it is listed below, priced line by line, so you can choose exactly what the museum needs and leave out what it does not.

Date Sunday, Oct 25, 2026 Program 3:30 to 5:00 PM Location Roots Theater + Lobby

What the afternoon is about

Honoring a sound while it is still being made

NMAAM exists to preserve and celebrate the music African Americans created and shaped. This Soul Food Sunday does that live: the artist who carried the talkbox to a new generation, performing in the museum, with MNPS students singing and a piece of his story entering the collection the same afternoon. The film should carry all three.

The questions that carry the film

A recap with a voice in it outlasts a recap set to music. These are starting points, and the museum is welcome to shape them.

For Mr. Talkbox

  1. What did you hear the first time you heard a talkbox, and what made you want to pick it up?
  2. What does it mean to have your work honored inside this museum, in your own city?
  3. What is the story behind the piece being unveiled today?
  4. Who carried this sound before you, and who do you hope carries it next?
  5. What do you want the students who sang today to take with them?

For the museum

  1. Why Mr. Talkbox, and why now, for Soul Food Sundays?
  2. What does this artifact add to the story NMAAM tells?
  3. What should someone who missed today know about what happened here?

Good to know

A few details to settle before Sunday

Sound board access

A full concert recording needs a clean feed from the Roots Theater board. A quick contact for the sound engineer before Sunday is all it takes.

Performance rights

Filming a live performance is straightforward. Publishing the full concert online may need the artist's sign-off on the music, so that is worth confirming with his team.

Student choir

MNPS students will be on camera. If the museum or the district needs media releases on file, I am glad to work from theirs.

Next steps

Locking in Sunday

  1. Pick a starting point above, or build your own and send the selection.
  2. I confirm the scope and send a short agreement and invoice the same day.
  3. A 50% deposit reserves the crew for Sunday. The balance is due on delivery.
  4. Share a run of show and a sound contact if you have them, and I handle the rest.
